Lukas Sommerrock, MBA Class Best and FESTO Award Winner
Tell us about yourself - Which three adjectives would best describe you?
I would describe myself as open-minded, honest and motivated.
You studied in Esslingen for 18 months, What memories do you associate with the city?
Esslingen is a lovely city with a beautiful old town centre in a wine region. Albeit it is relatively small, you can easily reach Stuttgart and other cities in middle Europe by car or train.
Which course(s)/module(s) best prepared you for your career?
First of all, I enjoyed the broad range of courses that enabled a comprehensive view of the significant functions of an industrial company. Secondly, the focus modules in the second semester on digital transformation will support me in my future roles.
Looking back what was your favourite subject(s) to study in the MBA program?
My personal favourite was Intercultural Leadership and Negotiations, as the professor expanded my horizon regarding communication capabilities.
What experiences have mainly influenced you, personally and professionally?
During the sometimes quite intense study program, I enjoyed interactions with my international study colleagues and company visits in person, which provided real insights. I also really liked the welcoming month with excursions in September during the first semester.
What did you gain from your studies for your future career?
I have expanded my horizons, and studying with many different and unique students from various backgrounds was a great experience that I can transfer to work life. From a professional perspective, the courses and professors have deepened my understanding of how companies work and how the different functions interlock together.
You have recently finished your studies. What are the next steps?
I am already back to working full-time, but after this experience, I will want to continue to deepen my knowledge or learn new skills, albeit perhaps outside of a university.
What advice would you give to bachelor graduates considering pursuing a Master's degree in Esslingen?
I believe the Esslingen MBA provides the best possible price to value relation with great professors with relevant industry backgrounds. Although the program is intense during the three semesters (I would not necessarily recommend working part-time in parallel), it is an exciting cultural experience due to the mix with the other international students.
