The Institute

In April 2012, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences created a new research and teaching focus - the Institute of Sustainable Energy Technology and Mobility (INEM). Its task is to undertake high-quality work which makes its contribution to the key technological fields of energy management and transport in projects which are manifold and pioneering. INEM at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences sees itself as a unit which encompasses all campuses and all faculties, and welcomes any and all members of the university who are interested in collaborating with it.

The Institute in brief:

Das INEM setzt sich aus Mitgliedern der am Standort Esslingen oder Göppingen ansässigen Fakultäten

  • Betriebswirtschaft
  • Fahrzeugtechnik
  • Gebäude- Energie- und Umwelttechnik
  • Graduate School
  • Grundlagen
  • Maschinenbau
  • Mechatronik und Elektronik
  • Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen

zusammen.

Es organisiert und bündelt seine Kompetenzen in Clustern.

Esslingen:

  • Testing station for fuel cell membranes (measurement and impedance spectroscopy)
  • Testing station for fuel cell stacks (< 3 kW)
  • Fuel cell hybrid system
  • Testing station for heat extraction
  • Measurement of zeolite storage systems
  • Automated polymer membrane coating/MEA production
  • Testing station for cooling circuits of electrical drives (6 kW)
  • Battery test rig with impedance spectroscopy and thermal conditioning
  • Battery test rig with climatic chamber
  • Control of hybrid energy storage units (dSPACE).

Göppingen:

  • Testing station for electric drive units
  • Test rig for electric vehicle drive systems
  • Testing station for latent heat storage systems
  • Test rig for renewable energy (photovoltaics).

Planned testing stations and test arrays:

  • Climatic testing station for electrical energy storage systems
  • Testing station for electrolysers (<  3 kW)
  • Diagnosis, disassembly of electric drives (incl. battery)
  • Testing station for cooling circuits of electric drives (< 100 kW)
  • Electric drive testing station (< 300 kW)
  • Battery module and cell test rig
  • Fuel cell and system test stand.

INEM is involved in teaching and research projects relating to energy management and mobility all over Germany and Europe. The research topics and the opportunities which INEM offers are equally wide ranging and future oriented.

We can offer:

  • Internships, final theses and doctorates
  • The possibility of combining work and study (part-time/ full-time/graduate assistant)
