HI-ECOWIRE

Enamelled copper wire is used for transformers and electric motors. HI-ECOWIRE is an EU-funded project to develop a sustainable and competitive production process with two main objectives:

(1) Improve the energy efficiency and performance of electric motors by 20% - 30% by increasing the thermal classification from  240°C to 280°C/300°C.
(2) Replace the current coating with a polymer with better thermal and dielectric performance. This should lead to a 90% reduction in solvent consumption.

The project is supported by an international consortium whose goal is to enhance European competitiveness in the transport and energy generation sector and at the same time reduce the CO2 footprint and the use of CMR solvents.
